November is the start of winter in Romania. Temperatures aren't as low, or snowfall as high, as later in the winter, but there is still a distinct chill in the air. Plus, days are relatively short. The average temperature range in Romania in November is between 35° and 50°F (2° and 10°C), so you'll need to bring a warm jacket. Temperatures tend to be colder in western, northern, and central Romania, and of course in the mountains, too.

November is low season for travel to Romania. While the country is always quite a budget-friendly destination, if you're looking for a culture-related vacation at a lower price point, November isn't a bad time to visit.
Where to Go
Romania's towns and cities are the best places to visit in November because you'll be able to retreat indoors if the weather is cold. Base yourself in one or two towns in Transylvania—such as Cluj-Napoca or Sibiu—to enjoy the best of both worlds. Venture into the Transylvanian countryside to see incredible medieval castles and churches, and then cozy up in a good restaurant or bar at night. If you don't have long to spend in Romania you could base yourself in the lively capital, Bucharest, and take a day trip to the famous Bran Castle, which Bram Stoker wrote about in his novel Dracula.

What to Do
Some of Romania's highlights are not weather-dependent, so don't let the cold, gloomy weather put you off cultural sightseeing. The most important, well-known sites are still open to visitors in winter, especially UNESCO-listed places. The Bucovina region of northeastern Romania is a highlight for travelers interested in culture, art, history, and architecture. The incredible painted monasteries and churches of this region are UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Many churches are concentrated in the city of Suceava, which makes a convenient base for exploring the other scattered sites.
