Begin the trip in Cairo, where you'll tour the Egyptian Museum, explore the city's Islamic heritage, and shop in colorful souks. Side-trip to see the pyramids of Giza and Memphis before moving on to the ancient city of Alexandria. See the remarkable Roman-style amphitheater, tour the catacombs, and pay a visit to the National Museum. On the next day of sightseeing, you'll go to an ancient center of learning, Bibliotheca Alexandrina, and visit the gorgeous Montazah Palace Gardens by the sea.

On the second half of the trip, you'll have a change of scenery as you travel overland to the desert oasis of Siwa. This journey starts and ends in Cairo. You won't spend much time in the capital city in the beginning, though: after getting oriented, you'll make the day trip to see the pyramids and the Sphinx in nearby Giza. On day three, you'll catch a flight to Luxor and spend some time touring the region's famous complex of ancient temples. The cruise officially begins on day four, when you board a boat and start making your way down the Nile River. 

First, you'll cruise to the temple at Edfu, continuing the following day to the temple at Kom Ombo. Get back on the boat and ride down to Aswan, where you'll spend the night and squeeze in some time to see the Aswan High Dam. Detour to the incredible Abu Simbel Temples on day seven, then overnight in Aswan. The first part of the trip is similar to many other itineraries through Egypt. Then you'll cross the border to Amman, Jordan. After a day of sightseeing in the city, you'll travel to the ancient settlement of Petra, known for its rosy-hued stone architecture and Roman ruins. On the last full day of the trip, you'll take an exciting desert safari tour through Wadi Rum. You'll explore the region on a safari in a 4x4 vehicle driven by a local guide, seeing red sand dunes, otherworldly rock formations, and huge rock bridges.
