Next, drive to Bovec in the Soča Valley. Make sure to try a local beer at one of the town's many microbreweries. Spend the following day exploring along the Soča River. You can go rafting, ziplining, or canyoning near Bovec. Or, visit the town of Kobarid to see its WWI Museum and learn more about the area's history.

From Bovec, continue on to Goriška Brda, Slovenia's wine region. Here you'll see lots of family vineyard estates, tiny churches, and cypress trees. Visit a local winemaker (or several) to taste some fine local wines. The following morning, visit the UNESCO World Heritage Škocjan Caves, which have one of the world's largest known underground caverns.

Finally, drive to Piran, a charming town on the Adriatic Coast. Sample some fresh seafood and visit the salt pans of Sečovlje Salina Nature Park. Spend your last few days in Slovenia exploring Ljubljana before catching your flight home. Learn more

In the evening, head up to Bled Castle for a royal dinner experience with an unbeatable view.

On day five, drive through Vršič Pass into the heart of the Julian Alps until you reach Bovec, in the Soča Valley. Bovec is Slovenia's outdoor adrenaline sports capital and is a great place to go rafting, ziplining, paragliding, or even sky diving. If you'd prefer something less physically intense, you can also visit nearby Kobarid and its WWI Museum to learn more about the region's history.

Leave the Soča Valley behind to enter the rolling hills and family vineyards of Goriška Brda, Slovenia's wine country. Here you can bike through the hills, climb a village tower for great views of the area, and of course visit local winemakers to taste this year's vintage.

The following morning, visit the Lipica Equestrian Park, home of the graceful Lipizzan horses before you cross the border to Rovinj, on the coast. Use Rovinj as your base to explore the Istrian Peninsula, where you can kayak on the coast, go truffle hunting in the interior, visit the Roman amphitheater in Pula, and much more. Learn more
