7 Islas Hotel, Madrid

Kimkim team favorite · 4.7 (26 reviews) · Comfort
Relax from Madrid's bustle at this light, airy, stylish hotel with an art gallery and signature craft beer and cocktails

Overview

You'll find yourself surrounded by creativity at 7 Islas, a boutique hotel and art gallery set in Madrid’s vibrant Malasaña neighborhood. The local Kikekeller furniture and interior design studio designed the entire property, infusing 7 Islas with a relaxed vibe. Its chic, minimalist rooms are outfitted with light wood and bright whites mixed with dark elements, unique decor, and abundant indoor greenery. The owner of the hotel hails from the Canary Islands and wanted to bring the sunny hospitality of the “Seven Islands” to the Spanish capital. Enjoy breakfast in a casual dining area or sit at the lobby bar for drinks and light meals.

Kimkim's Take

Pros

  • The hotel features a unique modern design by the interior design studio Kikekeller.
  • You can expect exceptional service from the youthful, friendly, and helpful staff.
  • You’ll get a personalized guide to the neighborhood.
  • Being located in the trendy neighborhood of Malasaña, you'll be within walking distance of Madrid’s downtown sights.
  • There is an art gallery with a bar serving craft cocktails and snacks.

Cons

  • The rooms are not very well sound proofed so you might hear people walk in the hallways when you are in your room
  • Common areas can get busy.
  • Standard rooms are on the small side.
  • There is no pool or spa.

Authenticity

7 Islas doubles as an art gallery, as you'll find exhibitions on the ground floor and rooms designed by the local Kikekeller's studio. As a result, you get a blend of trendy modern art and serene spaces. And if you've ever been to the Canary Islands, you might notice some island inspiration, as the family that owns the hotel is from Lanzarote.

Location

You'll find 7 Islas in the hip Malasaña district, a historic neighborhood with locally owned coffee shops, vintage clothing stores, artisan shops, bakeries, tapas bars, and restaurants. Since the hotel is only two blocks from Gran Vía, you can easily stroll to famous sites, such as the Royal Palace, Puerta del Sol, and El Retiro Park.

Rooms & Bathrooms

Overall, the rooms have a relaxed, calming vibe, mixing light wood and bright whites with the occasional dark furnishing or decor. Bathrooms are clean and spacious with amenities from the natural brand Malin + Goetz. The standard option (called Easy Rooms) is a bit small, so upgrade to a deluxe room for more space. Or, you can opt for the penthouse room, which features a private terrace with sun loungers.

Amenities

Although the hotel has no spa or swimming pool, its industrial-chic lobby doubles up as an art gallery. The lobby has plenty of space to relax, peruse the art, or sip a craft cocktail around the indoor fire pits. And when you need a snack or drink, head to the lobby bar. There is no rooftop garden, but you can go up to the rooftop (the hotel has an elevator) to catch views of the city and the Sierra de Madrid mountain range.

Family-Friendliness

Families with children and pets are welcome at the hotel. You can get children’s extra beds for a fee, but there are no amenities or facilities for kids.

Other Highlights

You'll enjoy a breakfast buffet in the downstairs dining area, which you'll reach via a leafy staircase complete with a fountain.

A great location in Madrid and walking distance to art museums, shopping and El Retiro Park. We enjoyed the hotel's artistic ambience, our quiet and spacious room and the professional and attentive staff. The breakfast room was bright and spacious, with an extensive selection and a barista who makes excellent coffee. Special thanks to Ruben at the concierge desk. Be sure to reserve at Angelita, a short walk away. Thank you 7 Islas!

Excellent and welcoming staff and an amazing location that is close to everything yet still quiet and intimate. We loved this hotel and highly recommend it it!!

Authenticity & Character
Nothing. This has lots of authenticity and unique personality, but it isn’t (and shouldn’t be) a old world Spanish hotel
Location
It is just enough off the Main Street to be quiet yet still very convenient
Staff
They were warm and had great suggestions.
Cleanliness & Comfort
So clean!! Well designed room. Our only complaint- we had to sign into the Wi-Fi every single time, and sometimes even multiple times during a session.
