Each year more and more travelers to Peru are discovering the pleasures of its capital city—and bringing their kids along for the ride. It's easy to see why: from world-class gastronomy to great surf beaches and expansive colonial parks, Lima provides the ideal conditions for an epic family vacation. Convinced? Here's where you should stay.

Lima is having a moment. Traditionally seen as a mere stepping stone to Machu Picchu, travelers are beginning to realize that Peru's capital is an incredible place in its own right. People now come for the food, the culture, the waves—and with family tourism exploding throughout South America, there's never been a better time to bring along the whole brood.

Many hotels in the city now accommodate entire families, and they have the services and amenities to prove it. Add that to Peru's family-oriented culture, and you can be sure that your entire group will be warmly welcomed when you arrive.

This Belmond Miraflores Park sits in a strategic location overlooking the water in Lima's fashionable Miraflores neighborhood. Not only do many of the rooms offer stunning ocean views over the bluffs, but the hotel is walking distance from the Larcomar shopping mall. The rooms are spacious and elegant, and you can choose adjoining rooms if more space is needed. If those aren't available you can request cribs and rollaway beds to be brought up. There's a slick rooftop pool that is open to children, and there is also a bar, tearoom and a fusion restaurant for adults.

This 11-story, 155-room Casa Andina also enjoys an ideal location in Miraflores. Walk out the door and you're only a few minutes from Parque Kennedy, where the kids can run around and play. And if you decide to stay in, that's no problem, either—many of the standard rooms offer an abundance of space. There's even an indoor heated pool to enjoy on those days when it's drizzly and grey outside. There's a cafe on the ground floor that serves quick snacks and fruits, and the hotel offers a solid breakfast buffet. One drawback is that they don't offer babysitting services, but they do have cribs. The Andina has a number of sister properties throughout the country, so you can book your excursions to Cusco and Arequipa right here.

The Antigua is another option in the Miraflores neighborhood. Smaller and without the benefit of a pool, it's a good option for parents on a budget. Its homey feel (think of it as a larger B&B) offers an intimacy not found in some of the bigger options on this list. The rooms are large, which is perfect for families, and they mix traditional design (hardwood floors, armoirs, etc.) with modern amenities and bathroom fixtures. There's a lovely rose garden in front, a garden area for the kids to play in out back, and Parque Kennedy is a short walk away.
