Getting Around Slovenia

Slovenia is a compact country just 200 miles (300 km) across from the Adriatic coast in the southwest to the Hungarian border in the northeast of the country. Its size and excellent roads make it a perfect self-drive destination.

Slovenia is also incredibly scenic, making it a pleasure to drive between its natural attractions like Lake Bled and the Soča Valley. If you are looking for a particularly scenic drive, consider the 2.5-hour route from Bovec to Piran in your itinerary (see more itinerary ideas for Slovenia). 

If you prefer to avoid renting a car, private transfers are also available.

Pro-tip: If you are looking at your inbound flights, consider airport hubs in neighboring countries such as Venice (VCE) and Zagreb (ZAG) in addition to Ljubljana International Airport (LJU), as you might find better rates and more direct flights. Both cities are within a 3-hour drive from Ljubljana and Slovenia's main sights.
