Maria Grazia Rubino

Born and raised in Southern Italy, I had the privilege to travel a lot, both in Italy and abroad. As a matter of fact, for me, travel is an all-consuming passion that started during my first trip in London. Since then, it grew more and more, especially when I had the chance to travel abroad by myself being lucky enough to meet people from all around the world. I thoroughly enjoyed tasting the local delicacies and getting to make new and fun experiences that I'd only previously dreamed of.

Of course, I want that travelers who visit my beloved country can make the same experiences and feel the same joy I felt. That is why, I enjoy planning a precise itinerary for them, so that they can live their best experience in the smoothest way possible.

How did you get involved in travel?

"I have always loved traveling and I started doing it since I was a teenager. I enjoyed the planning part and had a lot of fun organizing accurately the trip for myself and the people I traveled with, so that we could discover the hidden gems of each destination.
My love for traveling brought me to accept a job at the local InfoPoint, where I could help people exploring the beauty of my region, Calabria, and that was the perfect occasion to do what I loved the most: share the beauty of an amazing Italian region. After that, I started collaborating with Storywalking, an Italian tour operator that organizes FITs and small group tours throughout Italy. "

Please share a unique travel experience you will never forget.

"Without any doubt, my trip to Japan a life-changing experience for me!
I decided to travel completely on my own and went to Tokyo, where I met a lot of people of my age and lived this unique experience with them. Not only I visited Tokyo, but also Kyoto, Kamakura and other Japanese cities. Moreover, I had the chance to participate in different cultural activities.
I always felt like I was visiting a futuristic city, but the amazing thing is that as soon as I turned any corner, I would found myself in front a beautiful and ancient temple. I think this is one of the most peculiar trait of this country. "

Feb 6, 2023: Arrival at our hotel Rinucci Relais
Our driver at the Naples Airport was on time and patiently waited for us to do the paperwork for my husband’s lost suitcase that had been left behind at Rome airport.

At the Rinucci Relais, we were warmly greeted and offered typical Naeopolitian pastries; then
our host explained the breakfast service and showed us around our room.
Our accomodations were much more than the average hotel suite. Our “apartment” was spacious with a sitting area and and table and chairs if we wished to breakfast in our room. The bathroom and shower were spacious and modern. There was also a kitchen with a small stove and boiler.
On host also helped us to book restaurants and her suggestions were excellent.
Our breakfasts were spectacular, well prepared, generous, and delicious.
We were very pleased with our stay at the Rinucci Relai and would definately book the Rinucci Relais if we were to visit Naples again.

Naples and Pompeii 7 February

Our guide, Iulia, arrived at the appointed at our hotel and we discussed our plans for the day. We drove to the center of “Old town Naples” and Iulia explained the important architectural elemtent of the streets and important churches, monumnets, Roman ruins, ancient structures. To help us to get a sense of the city, Iulia recounted many myths and stories about what we were seeing. We stopped for coffee and delicious Nepolitian pastries. We enjoyed wandering the crazy streets of Naples and learning about the culinary delights of the city.
In the afternoon we drove to Pompeii. As we walked through the small museum and the ruins of the site, Iulia’s explanations, historical details, and humorous stories about Pompeii were detailed, interesting and engaging. I especially appreciated learning about the frescos/wall painting in the various structures that we viewed.

Iulia was an excellent guide; she made our visit to Pompeii a fun learning experience. Her sense of humor and extensive knowledge made for an excellent day.

8 February: Tour of the Amalfi Coast with Ciro
Our driver, Ciro, met us at the appointed time to begin our exploration of the Amalfi coast.
We discussed our itinerary for the day. Since our visit was in winter and many places on the Amalfi coast would be closed, Ciro suggested that we make adapt our original plan. We very much appreciated this. Our Naples guide had also made us aware of quietness of the coast during the winter season. The coast scenery was beautiful. As Ciro drove along the coast, he added details about the coast and Naples. His commentary was interesting, informed, and added to the landscape that we were viewing. We stopped in Amalfi for an hour to wanders, and of course, indulge in coffee and Neopoltian pastries. We also made several view-point stops. Our route took us to Sorrento where we originally planeed to stop for lunch. After realizing that the best restaurants would be closed, Ciro suggested that on our return that we could stop in the shadow of Vesuius at a winery for a wine tasting of local wines and lunch. We liked this suggestion and enjoyed the wine tasing and a delicious lunch. On our return to our hotel in Naples, we stopped for a coffee. This was the perfect end to a wonderful day. Ciro was an excellent driver and provided us with a lovely tour of the coast.
9 February: Our driver picked us up at Rinucci Relais and drove us to the airport for our flight home.

All of our guides were wonderful. We were impressed with how knowledgeable all the guides were. Marilu told us so much about the history of Sicily and took us on an interesting and varied walk around the old town of Palermo. And then met us again the next day to explain the incredible cathedral of Montreale. Claudio took us through the Valley of the Temples and explained each temple and the history of the Greeks and Romans in Agrigento. In Catania, Margherita was delayed due to unforeseen traffic conditions so she sent her friend, Angela to meet us at our hotel at the specified time. Angela was great. She took us to the Bellini Gardens and told us about their history. Then we met up with Margherita who condensed a lot of history into the next 3 hours while walking around Catania. We saw cathedrals, gardens, the market, streets of the old town and even stopped for coffee at a historic coffee shop.

All of our drivers showed up when they were expected and got us to the next location on time. Each of them made sure we met up with our host contact or the hotel where we were staying.

Our tour of the Amalfi coast with Antonio was amazing. He stopped several times for us to get pictures and took some of us as well. Lunch at Le Bonta del Capo was amazing! Picking lemons with the chef, making the limoncello, the wonderful meal and the limoncello at the end were among the most memorable experiences of our travels.

We couldn't have asked for more.

Hedoné Design Experience B&B
Agrigento

Barbara met us on the street and directed us to the B&B which was hard to find. She gave us information about the town and offered to drive us to the Valley of the Temples the next morning for our early tour. She served us breakfast each morning with wonderful Italian pastries, jams, and spreads. She was more than gracious. The room had a view of the valley of the temples below and the sea in the distance. We would have enjoyed the balcony if it had been warmer, but we chose to travel in the winter.

Barbara was absolutely wonderful.
Cleanliness & Comfort
Air from the heater blew directly on the bed when it was on. I solved this problem by hanging the decorative bed cover over the top bar above the bed. I would have appreciated a light blanket as the duvet is too much for me. I have this problem in all hotels that use duvets.

Our trip covered Tuscany and Cinque Terre, and we flew in and out of Rome. Maria Grazia was a delight to work with. She came up with an organized itinerary, and was receptive and accommodating to my modifications. She revised it three times, and we also had a zoom call during the planning process. The hotels she chose were perfect - very boutique like, but not budget breaking. We stayed in hotels in Siena, San Gimignano, Monterosso and Rome. And the transportation from place to place was seamless - we had drivers, we rented a car for a portion, and we took the trains. Everything went smoothly. One of the highlights she organized for us was a private walking food tour of Siena and that was a treat. Our tour guide Anna was knowledgeable, fun and knew the authentic places to go. It was a well spent four hours.

I highly recommend kimkim, and in fact, we are working with them again for a trip to Croatia and I have referred the company to many friends.

Our guide Anna was just delightful. It was a relaxing and fun four hours. She really knows Siena and also had lots of recommendations for other places to take a day trip to in the area as well as shopping and restaurant tips. Her English was excellent and we just thoroughly enjoyed her knowledge of the city, its history and its food.

The only issue we had during the trip was that the private transfer picking us up from our wine tour/cooking class arrived at 1:30, but the tour wasn't yet complete. We had just sat down to sample to wine and the food and unfortunately had to leave before trying any because our ride had already arrived. One recommendation for the future would be to plan for that private transfer to arrive about an hour later for bookings at this tour.

Other than that everything was great! We loved the four cities we visited and will definitely be recommending kimkim's services to friend and family.

Thank you!

The instructor was awesome and the tour was very interesting. Only comment would be to be sure the private transfer shows up about an hour later, as we were unable to stay for the sampling of the wine and food we had made.

Example: You will be on an all day trip, leaving at 7 am, will have lunch and will return late that night. How long will it take to get there, how long will we be at each stop, what will we be doing, any free time, when eat dinner, etc.
When I initially discussed hotel preferences, my only request was we needed a bed to accommodate by 6'4" husband (and I'm 5'8/9". First hotel in Rome, his feet were hanging off the end of our Double bed by an easy foot and 1/2. The room was so small I had to hunch over to get by the bed or scrap my back against the TV. It was an unpleasant four nights. With that said, the location was excellent and the breakfast was good. In addition, Kim Kim made it up to us by making a tour in Venice private & ensured we had a King bed at our next two spots.
The location in Florence was poor - simply too far away with no uber/taxi options. Fortunately, the Venice hotel was changed and this location was excellent as well.
There was a real lack of consideration with the tours as well - who schedules a 4 hour Vatican tour and a 3 hour Coliseum tour back to back in the same day? It was miserable.
Who schedules an all day tour for EARLY morning knowing they also scheduled your all day tour the day before that did not arrive back until LATE at night?
What was excellent was the transportation that was arranged and the Kim Kim CEO follow up (when needed) during our trip, that was a very nice surprise and bonus so, thank you very much.

Rome in a Day: Skip the Line Vatican Tour & Colosseum
Rome

Personally do not think many people need a 4 hour tour of the Vatican. What made this worse was it was followed by the 3 hour Colosseum tour. Two other couples were on the same tour and everyone was miserable. While all the sights are magnificent, just too much walking and overkill of information. We tried to leave the Vatican tour early and guide became upset and "made" us stay. Another party went to the bathroom during the Colosseum tour and the guide "went off" on the person.

Cinque Terre Day Trip From Florence
Florence

While a great experience - it was very rushed! It would have been nice to know what to expect before the tour started. Rushing between the 4 locations made the day hectic and provided no time to relax and enjoy the environment. The group was entirely too big and having to listen to the Tour Guide repeat everything in two languages wasted more of our time. Could have been more efficient and eliminate a stop. With this said, the guide did an excellent job with the limitations she had.

Quality of Experience
Food
While food was good - you could tell we were part of a "burn and churn" discount group meal. Were not greeted by anyone from the restaurant, food just tossed on the table (not sure what were eating), no refills, had to get own oil for bread, disappointing experience.

Dear Cherie,
thank you for taking time to leave a review about your experience with us. We feel sorry and apologize that our service did not satisfy your expectations. We set a high standard for ourselves, and we’re so sorry to hear this was not met, but I really appreciate you bringing this issue to my attention. Your feedback will definitely help us do better next time!

Regarding the hotel in Florence, my colleague Jessica asked you if it was up to your standards and you didn't raised the issues you've mentioned here. If mentioned early, we would have solved the issue as we did with your accommodation in Venice (that I'm glad you liked!).

The Vatican and Colosseum combo tour is the best solution for travelers who don't have enough time to visit the city and its main attractions. In the trip plan I sent you there was the duration of it and since you didn't mentioned that it could have been too long for you, I assumed you were fine with it.

Since your train from Rome was delayed, Jessica sent you 20% refund of which you were entitled of. Moreover, my team made sure that the driver would wait for your delayed arrival. We always guarantee the best solution to this kind of issues. We also solved your issue with your bags because we have coordinated everything with our driver.

I'm happy to hear that you're satisfied by the excellent work Jessica did following up when needed asking if everything was alright.

Thank you for your honesty, so we can investigate everything further.

I wish you and your family all the best! :)
