Mieke did an outstanding job of listening to our wants and needs as she assembled and refined our Netherlands trip plan to address both our preferences, as well as those of our daughter and son-in-law who travelled with us. The finalized trip plan we received was extremely detailed and thorough, including turn-by-turn directions to orient us upon arrival in each city.

Our hotels were clean, comfortable and centrally located. We were pleased to discover that they had period charm and/or amenities that made them much more special. As they had requested, our daughter and son-in-law even had balcony rooms in two cities!

Traveling in and between cities was simple because Mieke provided us with OV-chip cards for public transportation which made hopping on trains, buses, subways and water taxis quick and convenient.

Additionally, Mieke scheduled some activities for us with private guides. One of the highlights of our trip was our driver, Maarten who took us to the flower auction at Aalsmeer and then drove us into the country to see tulips in the fields. He was absolutely delightful and provided us with many helpful observations and suggestions. Another trip highlight was our guide, Tamara who led us on a 3-hour private cycling tour in Rotterdam. Not only was she informative, but she had a wonderful sense of humor!

In Amsterdam, Mieke arranged tickets for us to visit the Rijksmuseum and the Van Gogh Museum. In Rotterdam, Mieke not only included the Cube Houses but also the Markthal. We marveled at the architecture of both. Our boat cruise of the Rotterdam harbor enabled us to have a unique view of the one of the world's busiest ports.

No visit to the Netherlands would be complete with a visit to windmills - Mieke arranged for us to see both the mills in Schiedam and those in Kinderdijk.

Besides our scheduled activities, Mieke provided us with numerous tips and suggestions of places to eat and explore in each city.

We cannot than Mieke enough for a wonderful trip to the Netherlands! Her thoroughness and attention to even the smallest detail was simply amazing!

This hotel is conveniently located near the central train station. The staff was helpful and our room was clean and comfortable. The only drawback was that our stay coincided with a very warm spring day and the window in our room opened to another building only 6-7 feet away. As such, airflow was greatly reduced and our room was quite warm. Other than that, we would defintely recommend the Singel.

The Hotel Corps de Garde is a charming, characterful small hotel conveniently located just on the edge of the city center just opposite a canal. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful and provided exceptional service. Our room had beams and a window overlooking the canal. Air conditioning as a welcome bonus. Best of all was the breakfast each morning served in the pleasant dining room overlooking the canal. Breakfast included eggs prepared to order, sliced meats and cheeses, a variety of breads and croissants, as well as cereals, fruit, juice and coffee or tea.

This is a large hotel located in the city center. Our room was on the ground floor with a door to a courtyard seating area. Unfortunately, this proved to be quite noisy in the evening. Additionally, the men in the room next to us were easily heard through the wall which kept us awake until 2 a.m. While the bathroom was spacious and clean, the rest of the room looked "tired" and in need of updating. The carpet was not clean. The redeeming aspect of this hotel was the breakfast buffet that provided a wide variety in a top-floor dining room with a commanding view of the city.

The James Hotel Rotterdam

We had asked to have a room no higher than the third floor since we do not use elevators. Upon our arrival we were informed that our room was on the sixth floor. Although the hotel was fully booked, they were able to accommodate us on the fourth floor and even upgraded us to a comfort room. We were amazed at the size of the room - large by American standards, but positively palatial for Europe! Our room had a king-sized bed, a seating area with tv, a refrigerator, and a spacious bathroom. Breakfast was included for which we were provided 10 euro vouchers per person with which we could select a variety of breakfast pastries, juice, smoothies, cereal, coffee, tea, yogurt, and miscellaneous. The hotel staff were friendly and accommodating. We greatly enjoyed our time at The James.

Although this appears to be a somewhat non-descript hotel from the exterior, the interior is a highly polished with a modern, clean design. Many of the ground floor furnishings appear to be Herman Miller Eames design. Our hotel room was "pocket-size" but well-appointed with an i-Pad to operate the window shades and even the color of the lighting! Fun and funky decor and our room was spotlessly clean. Breakfast the next morning was buffet-style and included a wide variety of both hot and convenient grab & go options.

The tour gave us the opportunity to see one of the world's busiest ports in action from a vantage point that we would not otherwise have had.

Nadine is exceptional! I have used Kimkim for several trips, and this was, by far, the best experience with a specialist. Our group of 6 travelers had the most amazing trip to Netherlands and Belgium.

Nadine and Mieke were wonderful… attentive to what we wanted to see and do. We try to pack in a lot in a short period of time and they helped us do exactly what we wanted to.

We really appreciate the details that were shared with us … the hotels, the modes of transportation, optional activities as well
as food/dining suggestions. Every day was organized but yet had some flexibility built into it!

When train tickets weren’t available, it meant a lot that the team was available to correct the issue immediately.

Our trip was planned around the tulip blooms and I must say that was the highlight for us! While the weather was not ideal, it didn’t stop us from enjoying the spectacular display of the miles and miles of colorful flowers.

Geithoorn will always be my favorite, but we enjoyed walking around the canals of Amsterdam, Ghent and Bruges.
We definitely got a lot of walking in and not quite as much biking as we would have liked.
We left the two countries in awe of how easy it was to travel by train.

It was a fun adventure filled 9 days of vacation… something we would highly recommend to friends and family. Thank you Kimkim for introducing us to the awesome local consultants “Beat the Dutch” … loved working with Nadine and Mieke!

Nadine was a dream to work with - responsive, helpful, and kind. She designed an amazing trip for us to experience as much as we could during our first (but definitely not last) trip to the Netherlands. Due to severe weather in the States, we were unable to make our flight to Amsterdam. I emailed Nadine and before waking the next day, she had rearranged our schedule so we could salvage as much of our original plans as possible, including reissuing train tickets. The planned activities hit all the highlights so we got a great introduction to Dutch lifestyle, culture and history. The hotels she selected were exceptional and all conveniently located for rail travel between the cities and towns. For us, our favorite experiences included the restored village of Zaanse Schans. The windmill museum there was exceptionally done. Haarlem was delightful in every way and riding e-bikes through the National Park to the North Sea was a fun adventure. The gardens of Keukenhof should not be missed. I could have stayed there all day because it was so beautiful! Gouda was another place that we loved and could have spent more time there too. Of course, the cheese is legendary and well worth every bite! Riding bikes through the polder landscape was beautiful and fascinating. Thank you Nadine for helping us put together a fantastic trip!

Excellent tour, just in the hard rain. Of course, no one can control that. Canal boat guide was very funny and very knowledgeable and gave us an informative overview of the city as seen from the water. He even provided blankets and hot water bottles to keep us warm during the tour.

Really phenomenal experience with BTD travel… Nadine was amazing at setting up an itinerary based on our interests. It was highly customized and flexible, and her communication throughout our trip was invaluable. Would absolutely use this company!!!

We had a great trip with great planning. We had many new experiences in sights and culture. We enjoyed the contrast between quieter small towns of Bergen and the hustle of Amsterdam. This is our second time using kimkim and I would not travel abroad without it in the future. This particular time we traveled to the Netherlands and the last trip was to France. We knew very little about each destination other than a few specific places we wanted to visit. Emma made our Netherlands experience flawless. She laid out a perfect schedule for us with time built in just to explore on our own but still being able to see the places we wanted. I did add a couple things at the last minute and she performed some magic to make it happen. She was very quick to respond to any questions that we had, both before and during our vacation. I would highly recommend Emma to plan your trip to this area. And because of the ease of planning, the layout of the travel plans, and the overall experience, I highly recommend kimkim for any travel. I will not travel abroad without it in the future.

Excellent location, comfortable beds, very helpful and attentive staff. We had breakfast and dinner at the restaurant and their food is delicious. We were only mildly disappointed in the limited room service offerings, however the staff recommended and delivered to our room Uber Eats. Check in was easy and we were happy the room was ready when we arrived in the early afternoon. We would definitely stay here again.

Nadine was simply amazing! Throughout the planning process she was so dedicated to making sure our honeymoon was exactly what we wanted! This was easy to use and handy. We did not understand why we had to return it to the driver when the instructions later said to use it again in Rotterdam. This trip could have used a better explanation of how to get from the hotel to the windmills and beyond. We ended up having to use Bolt a lot for transportation. It would be helpful to communicate Bolt as an option for transportation…especially for those that can’t walk long distances.

We were thrilled with the trip that was planned and supported by our Kim Kim guide, Bas. Based on our very specific interests, and the way we like to travel, Bas planned a perfect itinerary. The plan included a nice balance of self-led activities and guide-led activities. It included guided walking tours, boat tours, and cycling tours as well as a self-led cycling activity. We had some input on the Bas' initial plan, and he was happy to make accommodations to fit our requests. Bas was also available to make some changes during the trip. For example, when a cancelled flight at the outset of the trip forced us to change some of our planned activities, he moved things around to make it work. We were able to get hard-to-secure tickets to the Anne Frank museum, and we had the pleasure of having tremendous, friendly, and fun guides for four of the activities.
