Introducing Greece

Greece beckons virtually every type of traveler. From dynamic cities like Athens and Thessaloniki to quaint seaside villages on remote islands, you are certain to find something right for you. Experience the country like a local with the help of kimkim's local specialists, taking in the beauty of today and feeling the weight of past centuries.

When is the best time to visit?
Greece is incredible year-round, but since it is an internationally renowned destination, expect crowds in the premier tourist destinations from late spring through early fall and during holidays. If you have the flexibility, try and visit during the "shoulder seasons" from late April through May and late September through October. Winter is a great time to visit mainland Greece, but many islands virtually shut down during this period. Learn more

Where should I go in Greece?
Athens and Santorini are famous for a reason and shouldn't be missed. But Greece has a virtually endless list of islands and other regions that are lesser-known (and less crowded) but offer an authentic Greek experience, from Naxos to mainland highlights like Nafplio and Meteora. Your local specialist can help you find the perfect destinations for you. Learn more

How many days do I need?
A week is barely enough to scratch the surface of the highlights of Greece, but it is enough to visit Athens and an island or two. Two weeks or more is the ideal amount of time to experience Greece's history, scenic beauty, and culture. And no matter how long you stay, you'll undoubtedly want to return for your next visit. Learn more

Getting around Greece
Ferries are a great option for convenient (and scenic) island-hopping, though it's good to note that routes and schedules can shift throughout the year. Driving is a good bet on the mainland but can be challenging on the islands. If short on time, domestic flights connect Athens to many major points of interest in Greece. Learn more

Angela worked hard to rearrange trips taking account of weather conditions and we were able to participate in and enjoy all. Santorini was beautiful but one should be aware that during February most restaurants are closed and there is a lot of construction work ongoing. I am truly happy that you enjoyed your time here with us even though the weather for sure wasn't on our side! During your stay "Barbara"(severe bad weather wave) was here too! (huge coincidence with the name!).
I am very happy that you enjoyed your time though and managed to see lots. 😊

I will be here and more than happy to assist you with your next trip to Greece. Maybe during May or late September when the weather is definitely better and the crowds are still low.

Until then take care and have fun!

Chris was incredible. We wound up calling him our deus ex machina because he was always there and responsive if we had any questions or issues. This was our first time using a travel agent and we'll never do it any other way. Chris listened to what we were looking for in our trip to Greece and created a plan that we then read through and adjusted if we wanted to. We were met at each airport by a driver holding a sign with my name on it. We visited many ancient sites and he arranged private guides at each one. When we flew on an internal flight, the boarding passes magically showed up on my phone. When we had a late flight leaving Rhodes, we were about to ask the hotel for a late checkout, only to find that Chris had already arranged it for us. Every day had suggestions for what we might want to do as well as restaurant suggestions. We even met him (and his kids!) for dinner. We can go on, but he made this a truly wonderful and memorable trip.

PS I have no idea what Kimkim did other than set us up with Chris. He was amazing.

Plaka, Athens

Perfect location. Small but comfortable room. Hotel staff were extremely nice. But be aware that there is a steep and narrow staircase to the rooms and the handrail doesn't go all the way up. Breakfast on the roof with a view to the Acropolis but the way up is a winding metal stair. Not good if you have any mobility issues.

I thought I'd give you a couple of days to rest and unpack before I hit you up for the review, but it looks like you beat me to it!!

I am very happy to hear that you are both home safe and sound, and that you had such a great time on your trip. Just for the record, it was me that appeared to be on top of everything, but there is a great team of people behind me that make it all possible. As a comparison, there was a team of people behind the scenes, turning the winch and moving the boom on Deus Ex Machina.

It was a great pleasure planning your trip for you, and an even greater one meeting you for dinner!
I wish we had more time to discuss matters of language and psychology, there are many things that I'd like to pick your brains on!

I do wish you both all the best, and I hope that I'll have the opportunity to plan your next trip to Greece, perhaps even your long retirement vacation when the time comes!

Till then, all the best to you and your family!

Highlights for us were Crete and Meteora. Had some marvelous food and wine all over Greece. Babbis(mainland) Lazurus (Santorini), and Yiannis (Crete) were all just fantastic guides and hosts. We loved everything we saw, but do wish we had a little more downtime at the end of our trip. That was our fault, not the guides. Our first hotel in Athens, The Foundry and Hotel Azade were especially standouts with amazing views and comfortable spaces.

Domotel Anemolia Mountain Resort
Arachova

Hotel was off the beaten track and quite a walk to the town for meals etc, especially when it was dark as there was no sidewalk and the road was pretty windy. Not a good combo for pedestrians. We were lucky to have a guide willing to come get us. Since it was off-season, there was no transportation, no restaurant service, and no laundry services provided. It would have been good to know these things prior to checking in. The room was adorable and the fireplace was fun to have.

Authenticity & Character
Precious chalet room with a fireplace, peaked ceiling, and mountain views.
Location
The road to town is a bit dicey without transportation. It is not that far, but they need to offer transport to town.
Staff
They were accommodating when they could be. It snowed in the mountains the weekend we were there, so it would have been nice for more services to be offered as they did have quite a few guests.
